About Us

Hey, we're Barks N Purrs. A locally owned pet store in Winnipeg, Manitoba, run by Curtis and Kira.

It started with a rescue dog.

Back in 2016, Curtis adopted Khaya, a German Shepherd Mix with way more energy than manners. A trainer suggested antlers to keep her busy. They worked. They worked so well that Curtis started sourcing locally shed antlers from across Manitoba and selling them out of his house under the name Antler World. Chicken feet followed. Then markets. Then a kiosk at Kildonan Place Mall in April 2018. Then a real storefront.

Kira joined the team and worked alongside Curtis for three years before becoming a co-owner of the business in April 2022, at 23 years old. Same passion, same belief that pets deserve real food, real toys, and real people behind the counter who actually know what they're talking about.

In February 2026 we moved into our new spot at 925 Headmaster Row and rebranded as Barks N Purrs. Same locally sourced focus, same family of customers (and dogs and cats), bigger space, and a name that finally says everything we do, not just antlers.

Today Barks N Purrs carries food, treats, toys, beds, leashes, jackets, Winnipeg Jets gear, and the Furmilia apparel line for pet parents who treat their dogs better than themselves (no judgment, we get it). We also offer grooming in-store.

We've got our own crew of pets in the family: Curtis's Khaya is the original inspiration, and Kira's two Hungarian Vizslas, Emma and Kylo, run the show over at her parents' place.
